Buying original art without a gallery used to feel complicated. The assumption was that galleries existed to protect buyers — to authenticate, to price fairly, to introduce the right works to the right homes. In practice, galleries exist to take a margin. Usually 40–60% of the sale price. The artist gets the rest.
The internet changed everything. Artists and curators can now reach collectors directly, without the overhead of a gallery space, a launch event, or a PR campaign. The result: buyers pay less, artists earn more, and the relationship between a work and its future home becomes personal rather than transactional.
This is how Maison Cordier works. We bring Kirsteen's original paintings directly to homes across Europe — no gallery, no agent, no commission layer. You pay the artist's value. We introduce the work personally.
Before you buy, it helps to know what makes an original worth acquiring — beyond whether you like the way it looks.
An original work should come with clear information about who made it, when, and in what medium. At Maison Cordier, every work comes with direct personal communication from the curator. You know exactly what you're acquiring and who stands behind it.
Mixed media works — paint, copper leaf, oil pastel — age differently from oil-only paintings and respond differently to light. Kirsteen's works with copper leaf are genuinely different at different hours of the day. Understanding the materials helps you understand what you're living with.
A work that looks commanding in a gallery photograph may feel lost on a wall, or may overwhelm a domestic space. The five works in the current collection are A2 and A3 — substantial enough to hold a room, proportioned for European homes rather than gallery white cubes.
All Kirsteen's works are painted to the edges and arrive ready to hang — no framing decisions, no additional cost. This matters more than it sounds. The moment between opening a package and having something on your wall should be short and simple.
Each of the five original works in the current Maison Cordier collection is available at €1,095. Ships fully insured to any European address. One work, one home — when it's gone, it's gone.

Prints, giclées and limited editions are not originals. Ask directly: is this the only physical work? Are there any reproductions? At Maison Cordier, every work is a single original. There are no editions, no prints, no reproductions. Ever.
With gallery art, post-sale support can be difficult to trace. When you buy through Maison Cordier, you have Marc's direct contact. The conversation doesn't end at sale.
Original works need proper packaging and insurance. Every Maison Cordier work is shipped fully insured, packaged to protect the painting for transit across Europe.
The best original art doesn't just fill a wall — it changes a room. The light that moves across a copper-leaf surface in the afternoon is not decorative. It's alive. That's the difference between an original and a print, and it's a difference worth paying for.
If you'd like to discuss which work might suit your space, write to us. Tell us about the room, the light, the feeling you're looking for. Marc responds personally, always within 24 hours.
