About this work
Windswept seagrasses in the foreground, a distant island resting on the horizon — neither quite reachable, neither quite still. This is a painting about the pull of somewhere just beyond reach.
Oil pastel combined with mixed media creates a surface that is both fluid and grounded. The marks move freely but the composition holds. Kirsteen describes this balance as the point where a work stops being made and starts being itself.
The palette is cool and atmospheric: blues and greys and soft greens, with linear accents of oil pastel that give the grasses their particular energy. Smaller than the A2 works but no less present in a room.
